We first heard about “Dierenthuis” (Which means Animal’s Home) just last year while working on a story about Lucy Vos-Laarakker and her admiration for these beautiful animals. “Mickeyfan” and our friends over at “MickeyRourkeOnline” has since become a strong supporter of her beliefs and have made it a point to do what we can to help these little angels that the world has forgotten. We have set up areas for people to be able to donate what they can to the shelter in the memory of Lucy. We are also strong supporters of the “SPCA” and you can find a place for that as well on the site. Since our story we have found out that the shelter has also held an auction to raise money as well. This auction was held during the month of March and they have managed to raise 450-euro dollars, which is a little over $568.00 here in the United States. While talking to Petra Schenkeveld, who is also a member of Mickeyfan, we have been able to find out information on the auction and get permission from the artist himself to use the pictures that were taken during and after the transformation of this beautiful sculpture. This sculpture was created in the image of one of the most famous residence of the shelter name Schorrie. Schorrie has this special way of winning the hearts of everyone that comes into contact with him. Jaap Kroep was the talented artist that created this sculpture of Schorrie and had donated it to the shelter for them to be able to auction it off to raise the money. There are 200 Cats and 31 Dogs that live there and the volunteer’s have their hands full when it comes to bringing them the things that they need. We are not yet sure of how much money has been raised from the donation buttons that we have set up for the shelter, but are sure that they have been beneficial in helping them to continue showing all the love and caring that these animals deserve. We want to thank everyone that has managed to go by the site and make their donations as well and we hope that more stand up to the plate to help out. We also would like to show our appreciation to those who continue to support and maintain Dierenthuis. For if it wasn’t for people like this, places like this would not exist! Thank you to Alice and Steven Van Duyn and all of the volunteers that find the time to come out to help. People like you are hard to find in this world and you have definitely made yourselves noticed in the eyes of the members here at “Mickeyfan” and over at “MickeyRourkeOnline.” Every little bit helps! Bless You!
